Wednesday Fun #3 - Most Treasured

What piece of your kitchen and/or kitchen equipment do you treasure the most? Your stove, knives, mixer, cookbook collection, cast iron pan, corn-on-the-cob holders, salt and pepper collection... what?

And why? It's the most used, useful, prettiest, has sentimental value, makes the best ___, always wanted one... what?

Its a toss up between my antique cast iron and my KitchenAid stand mixer. You can cook anything in cast iron, especially since the stuff thats been seasoned for 30+ years. Ajd disagrees, but he doesn't cook much, so who cares. On the other hand, I've always wanted a big stand mixer, the kind you can make bread with. I don't use it as often as I thought I would, but it will last forever, so who cares. Next, I want a really good food processor.

There's so much I treasure about my current kitchen...but the thing I love the most I've had for quite a while. My pepper grinder. It's batter operated, has a light to see where the pepper's going, one handed use. I use that thing everyday.

Kitchenaid mixer for making things easier/faster- I love that thing and I use it all the time.
I also have a huge set of tin cookie cutters that Grandma gave me that are the ones I always remember using as a kid- The jumping reindeer, santa with a pack of toys, the tree with the star on top, etc. So even though they only get used a couple of times a year, I could never part with them.

I love my pots and pans - they were a gift from Pants our first Christmas in the townhouse and he got me exactly what I wanted in pots and pans (no nonstick coating, glass lids) - even though everyone at work told him I would kill him for giving me pots and pans for Christmas.

My knives. My wonderful, Henkels knives. I have often told Wog that he wil have to burry me with them (though hopefully not because of them).

I can't decide. I really love my Wusthof knives, especially the santoku. I can't imagine life without my cast iron pan. The dishwasher is still magical to me. The first time I used the dough hook on my KitchenAid stand mixer, I nearly wept for joy. I love the beautiful maple cutting board we got from Puck's dad: it's a work of art, but that hasn't stopped us from using it. I adore my spaetzle maker (ohh, must make spaetzle soon...). I can't do it.

I've been pondering and pondering this one. I mean, I like my knives, and our French press, and our new safety can opener, and, and, and... but I think for sheer usability, I have to pick our (wedding present, so bonus sentimentality points) All-Clad Dutch oven. I use it ALL THE TIME for pasta, soup, stir-fry, whole chicken on the stove... everything! And while I find All-Clad's usual long handles difficult to hold and pour with, this has two small ones instead, so much better.
