Wednesday Fun #69 - Kitchen Joy

Last week I asked you about your hated kitchen chores. Those things you just can't STAND doing, maybe put off until you have to, or try to get somebody else in your house to do instead of you.

Let's turn it around this week. What brings you joy in the kitchen? Is it trying a challenging new recipe & having it turn out? Making a family recipe that reminds you of a relative or your childhood? Seeing your shiny sink? (Yes, I've been doing some FLYing...) Is it baking up a batch of cookies with your kid(s)? Feeling a sense of accomplishment that you've planned out a healthy, yummy menu? Coming home from work and smelling delicious smells from your crockpot and knowing supper's already ready?

What brings you some kitchen joy?

I've always liked peeling potatoes. Not all that exciting, but it was always a way I could hang out in the kitchen without doing any of the hard stuff.

Making lemon curd. Apologies to everyone who's heard this from me a million times, but it really does make me ridiculously happy. It's like magic the way you're whisking and whisking and then it suddenly goes from slightly goopy liquid to *poof!* lemon curd! in the span of about 5 seconds.

It also makes the kitchen smell lovely, and when you're done you have lemon curd. There is no bad here.

I like cutting with good knives.

I saw your comment on Mom 101... What is up with the teapot video?

Nice to find another foodie mom. Great blog!

I'd have to second ShoNuff on the cutting with good knives. Makes a WORLD of difference.

Hmmm. Eating? I guess if I have the time and inclination, I enjoy the actual cleaning and subsequent reveling in the clean of a kitchen. I love seeing the light (albeit fluorescent) reflecting in a clean (albeit faux wood-grain laminate) counter top.

Baking. I really like baking. Doesn't really matter what I am making... though some fussy things are fun if I am in the right mood- decorating a cake or some sugar cookies and making them all look pretty and martha-esque, I love that. (if I have the time)

Cooking of any kind. Especially in a clean kitchen with someone to help clean up. One of my favorites is Indian rice puding. It takes forever, but it tastes so good in the end.
