Wednesday Fun #15 - Frozen Favorites

If you look below, you'll see my post where I reviewed a busy-day-backup frozen meal. Then AllKnowingJen mentioned another in the comments. That made me wonder...

What frozen foods to do have on hand and/or recommend as good busy-day-backup options?

I like Amy's Indian meals, especially the mattar paneer. I also recently tried Kashi's chicken florentine (available at SuperTarget) and thought it was quite good — the garlic sauce is really garlicky! Yay! Neither of these are cheap, as frozen dinners go, so they're not something I'm going to put into regular rotation, but they're both pretty good for you (though you can't escape sodium with frozen foods) and delicious.

The chicken gyoza (potstickers) from Trader Joes are really great. They come in a big bag and you can take out as many as you want. TJ's own chicken enchiladas with green sauce (salsa verde) are also great, but the enchiladas are high in fat. Still , Yummy and great single serving portions for those of us who are eating alone most nights.
I like the Amy's meals - especially the eggplant parm, but the fat content! Wow!

The Kashi Pizzas are really good too (though smaller than a typical frozen pizza) and I do usually add a little extra cheese to them. We've had one of the chicken ones and another one, both were tasty.
The other frozen stuff we use all the time is Morning Star farms. I could not feed a toddler with out them!
Black bean burger, pizza burger, the veggie bites, the mini corn dogs... on and on.
Amy's also makes pizza rolls that I love (spinach & cheese) but I can't always find them. And I wish I lived closer to a TJs.

Oh, AKJ, you're right! I totally forgot about MorningStar. Their spicy black bean burgers are yummy, and we often have the buffalo "chicken" and veggie bites around as well.

One of my goals this year is to make more of my own pizzas and freeze them, rather than buying frozen pizzas. Damn the ease and appeal of cheesey frozen foods!

We make Chicken Voila! in Garlic Chicken flavor. It's ok, nothing to write home about. But I'm going to try the stuff you mentioned.

Pusher - I highly suggest the boboli crusts and their pizza sauce. Both are really, really good. The sauce is nice and spicy instead of sweet. One container of sauce works for one large or two small pizzas. (They come in three bag boxes) Wog and I keep the small crusts and some bags of sauce around for a quick meal when needed (the crusts can be frozen).
Also, highly suggest the Hormel turkey pepperoni. Good flavor and low in fat.
