Wednesday Fun #7 - Yummy Thanksgiving

Mmmmmm... Turkey Day is only a week and a day away.

Is the bird the star of your show? Are you drooling for stuffing? Does your mother-in-law make an incredible side dish? Is it all about some traditional recipe your family makes every year? Pie, baby, pie?

What dish are you most hungrily anticipating at your Thanksgiving feast?

I love cooking everything about Thanksgiving. I love turkey, I make a mean sourdough and mushroom stuffing, and the family cranberry recipe makes me drool. I have standard things I make, and then I have room for experimentation as well. However, at the in-laws, I'm usually asked to bring rolls. Its an established setup there and there are a large number of people who can't stand any change to the establishment. It drives me bonkers enough that I go home and make an entire Thanksgiving dinner of my own. Mostly because there are no leftovers at the in-laws, and really, its all about the leftovers.

Blogger ate my comment!

Anyway, this year I'm really hoping for moussaka from the Greek place by my sister's house. Mama B was never much for the traditional Thanksgiving dinner, so when I think of Thanksgiving, I think manicotti. But I do dearly love leftover turkey sammiches, and any excuse to make apple and pumpkin pie is good in my book.

I almost forgot... Apple & cranberry pie. I make it different than Mom in that I pre-cook my filling a bit, but its still my favorite. I should post the recipe here after I remember how to make it (usually while making it)

For me, Thanksgiving is all about the sides. I like turkey and all, but I'd much rather have stuffing, potatoes, sweet potatoes, pie, etc. ( I used to not like sweet potatoes until my aunt taught me how to make them taste like candy- yummy!) Though I do love leftover turkey sammiches too- they are the best! (I wish you could get that same taste/texture without having to cook a whole turkey!)
My family always has at least 4 different kinds of pie: pumpkin, apple, french silk, and pecan. It makes it impossible to decide.
Excuse me, I have to go wipe up all this drool...

I, too, am all about the extras. I love my step-mom's corn casserole, I love green bean casserole, I love stuffing and mashed potatoes, I love pie and ice cream. Turkey's great and all, but it can't compete with all the pickles and olives you can eat.
